DECLARATION OF THE CHRISTIAN LIBERATION MOVEMENT.

FACED WITH THE REPUGNANT ABUSES ORDERED FROM HAVANA AGAINST WOMEN, RELATIVES OF POLITICAL PRISONERS IN SANTIAGO DE CUBA.

On December 6th, the Defense Committees of the Revolution in Palmarito de Cauto, province of Santiago de Cuba, summoned an acto de repudio/an act of repudiation at the home of Amelia García, 62 years old, and mother of the political prisoners José Daniel and Luis Enrique Ferrer García. This acto de repudio/repudiation act, also was directed against her daughter Belkis and her daughter-in-law Milka María Peña, who along with her 2 ½ year old daughter María Libertad, is presently staying in Mrs. García's home.

Since most of the neighbors refused to participate in the repudiation act, the president of the CDR Nora Vaillant and other leaders of the government, such as one that goes by the name of Sablón,who is part of the Directive of the Mella Municipality, summoned a reunion last December 7. In this reunion, they threatened the neighbors with accusing them of counter revolutionaries and with attacks if they did not participate in the aggressions against the women in question.

According to one of the leaders in question, there was an order issued in Havana to quash these women to whom they had to deny all type of attention. In this same meeting they forced all neighbors to come forward, and thus they did one by one, in an atmosphere of true terror against their own neighbors who in turn made an acto de repudio/an act of repudiation at the home of Amelia.

On December 8, around midnight, they violently threw a block of concrete against the door of the home, causing a great commotion and terrorizing the little girl, who along with other women slept in the home.

Then in the morning of December 10th, when the relatives of political prisoner Luis Enriquez Ferrer left the home to go visit him at the prison, a mob of about 100 people surrounded Ferrer's mother, Amelia, his sister Ana Belkis, his wife Milka and their 2 year old daughter in the street. Some were carrying police "tonfas", others were carrying sticks with nails at the end of the sticks and others had umbrellas in their hand. They spent hours offending, threatening and making fun of the four defenseless women, including the little girl. The husband of Ana Belkis, and member of the Christian Liberation Movement who was accompanying them was also subjected to the offenses. It was all directed by the Communist Party and by Ezequiel Morales among others. For more than four hours they prevented the women from boarding a taxi. Finally, a truck stopped and picked them up and they were able to go to visit Luis Enrique. This action was under control of the State Security, for at the place there was a Lada car with license of the Ministry of the Exterior, several officers in Suzuki motorcycles and another agent in a Yamaha Motorcycle.

While the mob was still gathered, Mrs. Belka Cantillo Ramírez, and wife of the prisoner José Daniel Ferrer and mother of three small children ages ranging from 8 to 1 ½, approached the crowd because the had mob picked up her father to participate in the act of repudiation without her consent, and her father is a 77 years old man who suffers from arteriosclerosis. Belka proceeded to tell her father that the act of repudiation was against his son in law, the father of his grandchildren. The old man reacted by hitting his daughter, and immediately thereafter, a group of women jumped on Belka hitting her on her face, abusing her until a man came along and managed to pull Belka out of the reach of the mob and took her away from the scene.

When Amelia, Ana Belkis, Milka and her little girl return from visiting Luis Enrique Ferrer, several people still armed with the above mentioned instruments were waiting for them and soon thereafter they summoned another crowd who surrounded their home until late hours into the night. Around four o'clock in the morning, Ana Belkis and Belka, sister and wife of political prisoner José Daniel Ferrer managed to leave the home to get to Camaguey, in order to visit José Daniel Ferrer who is serving an unjust sentence of 25 years the prison Kilo 8.

At the closing of this denouncement, Ana Belkis and Belka had no news on what has transpired with Amelia, Milka and their little girl who remained in Palmarito de Cauto.

We call on the international press accredited in Cuba to contact the victims of this situation and that they travel to Palmarito de Cauto in order to obtain news from the victims of this grave situation so that they can tell the World.

When we denounced the act of repudiation against Ana Belkins and other residents of the town of San Luis last November 27th, where they were savagely beaten and abused we thought that there Was going to be a condemnatory reaction from the international community, but that was not the Case.

The facts are demonstrating that the magnitude of terror and violence has no limits and it is increasing. It seems that the Cuban authorities not only allow but also order such acts which are extreme and serious. If dangerous is the regime's escalation, dangerous also is the silence of many or the hesitant reactions of others. Situations more serious than these can only constitute bloodshed and death of many Cubans at the hands of repressive forces.

It is amazing that even among the Cuban exile community; the echo of our voices has been almost extinguished after many of our denunciations. This silence amongst powerful circles of the exile against our Movement and our work, especially against the Varela Project, closes more as the repression against us grows within Cuba. They must remember that we are also defending, from Cuba, and with dignity the right of all the Cubans, and that the solidarity, if it is sectarian, is not solidarity.

We call on all governments and nongovernmental organizations and to the sensible people in the world so that they raise their voices against the increase of violence and repression that the Cuban people is being subjected to.

We call on all institutions, the Latin American Parliament, the members of the Ibero American community and the Ibero American Office, the European Parliament And The Commission of the European Union and the United Nations, to focus on this situation happening in Cuba and for them to call on the Cuban authorities to respect the dignity and the rights of its citizens.

In Cuba, we call on all Pastors and members of the Protestant and Evangelical Churches, Masons and members of other brotherhoods, The Bishops and priests, and members of the Catholic Church, for them not to remain in silence, to raise their voice in defense of the Peace and rights of the Cuban People. Better now, before greater evil.

All the people who participate as part of the power in Cuba are responsible for these acts against the people and their consequences. The reconciliation spirit that we maintain cannot be interpreted as carte blanche of impunity for crime without limits. To those, no matter what position they have, we also call on them, as the Cubans they are, not to let themselves be dragged into perversion.

These actions and this repression are not only against the Christian Liberation Movement and the promoters of the Varela Project, but are against all the Cuban People. Those Cubans that believe that by accepting the government orders, they will avoid more suffering are only fooling themselves. That is why we call on all Cuban citizens to show solidarity, to say the truth, not to subject themselves to fear, and demand their rights pacifically. In doing so, we will manage to transform this repression, fear and injustice to an atmosphere of freedom, rights, justice and brotherhood.

DECLARACIÓN DEL MOVIMIENTO CRISTIANO LIBERACIÓN.

FRENTE A LOS REPUGNANTES ABUSOS ORDENADOS DESDE LA HABANA CONTRA MUJERES FAMILIARES DE PRESOS POLÍTICOS EN SANTIAGO DE CUBA

El día 6 de Diciembre los Comités de Defensa de la Revolución en Palmarito del Cauto, provincia de Santiago de Cuba, convocaron a un acto de repudio contra la casa de Amelia García, de 62 años, madre de los prisioneros políticos José Daniel y Luis Enrique Ferrer García. Este acto de repudio también iba dirigido contra su hija Ana Belkis y su nuera Milka María Peña, que por estos días convive en la casa de Amelia junto a su pequeña niña María Libertad de dos años y medio.

Como la mayoría de los vecinos se negó a participar en este acto de repudio, la presidenta del CDR Nora Vaillant y otros dirigentes de mayor nivel, entre éstos un tal Sablón, de la Dirección del Municipio Mella, convocaron a una reunión el día 7 de Diciembre. En ésta, amenazaron a los vecinos con acusarlos de contrarrevolucionarios y atacar a quienes no participaran en la agresión contra estas mujeres.

Según dijo uno de estos dirigentes, había una orden dada desde La Habana de destruir y aplastar a estas mujeres a las que debía negárseles todo tipo de trato y atención. En esta misma reunión obligaron a todos a dar un paso al frente, y así lo hicieron uno a uno, en un ambiente de verdadero terror contra los propios vecinos, que entonces realizaron un acto de repudio contra la casa de Amelia.

El día 8, cerca de la media noche, tiraban un bloque de concreto con gran violencia contra la puerta de la casa, causando un gran estruendo y aterrorizando a la niña, que junto a las otras mujeres dormía en la vivienda.

El día 10 de Diciembre correspondía visita a Luis Enrique Ferrer, que cumple 28 años de prisión, y cuando en la mañana salieron a la carretera, su madre Amelia, su hermana Ana Belkis, su esposa Milka y su hija de dos años y medio, fueron rodeadas por una turba de cerca de 100 personas. Algunos llevaban en sus manos tonfas, que son los palos oficiales que usa la policía, otros llevaban palos que en su extremo tenían puntillas y tornillos punzantes, y otros, paraguas evidentemente repartidos para la ocasión. Durante horas ofendieron, amenazaron y se burlaron de estas cuatro mujeres indefensas, incluyendo la niña. El esposo de Ana Belkis y un joven del Movimiento Cristiano Liberación les acompañaban y también eran víctimas de las ofensas. Todo esto era dirigido, entre otros por Ezequiel Morales, dirigente del Partido Comunista. Durante cerca de cuatro horas impidieron que tomaran ningún transporte y amenazaron a los taxistas para que no los llevaran. Finalmente un camión que pasaba los recogió y pudieron ir hacia la visita de Luis Enrique. Toda esta acción estaba bajo control de la Seguridad del Estado, pues en el lugar había un Lada con chapa del Ministerio del Interior, varios oficiales en motocicletas Suzuki y otro agente en una motocicleta Yamaha.

Estando la turba aun reunida, se acercó a ésta la señora Belka Cantillo Ramírez, esposa del prisionero José Daniel Ferrer y madre de tres niños de 8, 3 y 1 y medio años de edad. Belka se acercó, porque sin su consentimiento habían llevado a su padre de 77 años, que padece de arterioesclerosis, a participar en el acto de repudio. Belka le dice a su padre que esas acciones eran contra su yerno José Daniel, el padre de sus nietos. El anciano reaccionó golpeando a su hija e inmediatamente varias mujeres del grupo comienzan a golpear a Belka en el rostro, a arañarla y a empujarla, hasta que un hombre del poblado logra desprender a Belka del asedio de la turba y la aleja del lugar.

Cuando Amelia, Ana Belkis, Milka y su niñita regresan de la visita al prisionero Luis Enrique Ferrer, varias personas todavía armadas con los mencionados instrumentos, les estaban esperando y en poco tiempo vuelven a convocar a la turba que comienza a asediar su casa hasta altas horas de la noche. Cerca de la cuatro de la madrugada, Ana Belkis y Belka, hermana y esposa respectivamente de José Daniel Ferrer logran salir rumbo a Camagüey para visitarlo en la cárcel de Kilo 8, donde cumple 25 años de prisión. Al momento de redactar esta denuncia, Ana Belkis y Belka desconocían la suerte de Amelia, Milka y su niñita que quedaron en Palmarito del Cauto. Hasta aquí el detalle de los hechos.

Nosotros exhortamos a la prensa internacional acreditada en Cuba a que contacte a las víctimas de estos hechos y a que acudan a Palmarito del Cauto para tener una información de primera mano sobre esta gravísima situación y puedan ofrecerla al mundo.

Cuando denunciamos el acto de repudio realizado el 27 de noviembre contra Ana Belkis y otras personas en el pueblo de San Luis en el que fueron salvajemente golpeadas y ultrajadas pensamos que habría una reacción condenatoria de estos hechos y en defensa de estas personas inocentes en todo el mundo, pero no ha sido así.

Los hechos están demostrando que la escalada de terror y violencia no tiene límites sino que va creciendo. Parece que las autoridades cubanas no solo permiten sino que autorizan y ordenan semejantes hechos, a los que caben muchas calificaciones, pero al menos estaremos de acuerdo en que son gravísimos. Si peligrosa es la escalada del régimen, peligroso es el silencio de muchos o las tímidas reacciones de otros. Situaciones más graves que éstas solo pueden ser el derramamiento de sangre y la muerte de muchos cubanos por parte de las fuerzas represivas. De nada servirá que se levanten las voces cuando esto llegue a ocurrir.

Es asombroso que en el propio exilio cubano, el eco de nuestras voces haya sido casi apagado después de muchas denuncias nuestras. Este silenciamiento de círculos poderosos del exilio contra nuestro Movimiento y nuestro trabajo, especialmente contra el Proyecto Varela, va cerrándose más mientras crece la represión contra nosotros dentro de Cuba. Deben recordar que desde aquí, nosotros, estamos defendiendo los derechos de todos los cubanos dignamente y que la solidaridad, si es sectaria, no es solidaria.

Llamamos a todos los gobiernos y organizaciones no gubernamentales y a las personas sensibles en el mundo a que levanten su voz contra la escalada de represión y violencia que sufre el pueblo cubano.

Llamamos a todas las instituciones, al Parlamento Latinoamericano,a los miembros de la comunidad iberoamericana y a la Oficina Iberoamericana, al Parlamento Europeo y a la Comisión de la Unión Europea y a la Organización de las Naciones Unidas, a que atiendan esta situación en Cuba y llamen a las autoridades cubanas a respetar la dignidad y los derechos de sus ciudadanos.

Llamamos a todos los pastores y miembros de las iglesias protestantes y evangélicas, a los masones y miembros de otras fraternidades, a los obispos, sacerdotes, personas consagradas y miembros de la Iglesia Católica, dentro de Cuba, a que no permanezcan en silencio y levanten su voz en defensa de la paz y los derechos del pueblo cubano. Mejor ahora que antes de mayores males.

Todas las personas que participan del poder en Cuba son responsables de estos actos contra el pueblo y de sus consecuencias. El espíritu de reconciliación que sostenemos no debe ser interpretado como una carta de impunidad para el crimen sin límites. A éstos, tengan el cargo y la posición que tengan, también les llamamos, como cubanos que son, a que no se dejen arrastrar en la perversión.

Estas acciones y esta represión no son solamente contra el Movimiento Cristiano Liberación y los gestores del Proyecto Varela, sino son contra todos los cubanos. Se engañan aquellos cubanos que crean que sometiéndose, manteniéndose al margen o acatando las órdenes del poder, van a evitarse más sufrimientos que los que ya han pasado y están pasando. Por eso llamamos a todos los ciudadanos cubanos a la solidaridad, a no someterse por el miedo, a decir la verdad, a reclamar sus derechos pacíficamente. Así lograremos transformar este ambiente y este orden de represión, miedo e injusticia en un ambiente de derecho, libertad y fraternidad.
