CABELLO NUEVA AMENAZA CONTRA MARTHA BEATRIZ ROQUE CABELLO VINCULADA CON LA FECHA DEL 20 DE MAYO LA LÍDER DE LA ASAMBLEA PARA PROMOVER LA SOCIEDAD CIVIL EN CUBA PIDE URGENTEMENTE RESPALDO INTERNACIONAL ANTE POSIBLE NUEVA AGRESIÓN FÍSICA Y ENCARCELACIÓN Miami, Florida, 12 de mayo del 2006 - El 10 de mayo, Martha Beatriz Roque Cabello fue nuevamente amenazada por parte de miembros de la Brigada de Respuesta Rápida colocada por la policía política del régimen castrista en la cercanía de su vivienda. Le informaron que no podría salir de su casa el próximo 20 de mayo. Cuando le entregaron la licencia extrapenal en julio del 2004, oficiales de la Dirección de Cárceles y Prisiones y de la Seguridad del Estado le informaron que su excarcelación no conllevaba restricciones, ya que la opositora no hubiese nunca aceptado la imposición de condiciones políticas a su excarcelación. Como consecuencia de esta nueva amenaza, Martha Beatriz ha solicitado a través de una carta a la Licenciada Amelia Rodríguez Cala, que la represente ante los Ministros de Justicia y del Interior, para solicitar el fin del hostigamiento a que es sometida. De no recibir respuesta positiva y oportuna del régimen castrista, y dado a que ella no permanecerá dentro de su casa el 20 de mayo, la opositora solicita que su Abogada inicie los trámites para ingresar de nuevo a la cárcel y completar la sentencia que le fue impuesta de 20 años de prisión. En la noche de ayer, Martha Beatriz comunicó a los que abajo firmamos y a la oficina del Congresista Lincoln Díaz-Balart su posición, haciéndonos llegar la carta que adjuntamos con carácter urgente. Ante esta nueva amenaza, es de suma importancia que los medios de prensa acreditados en La Habana y representantes de los gobiernos con Embajadas en Cuba monitoreen muy de cerca esta situación y estén dispuestos a presentarse en la casa de Martha Beatriz durante el transcurso de esta próxima semana, y especialmente el 20 de mayo. Hacemos también un llamado a los medios de prensa locales y a la comunidad internacional a que divulgue y denuncie estas nuevas amenazas y hostigamiento contra Martha Beatriz Roque Cabello por parte del régimen castrista. Respetada Amelia: Como usted bien conoce, producto de mi estado de salud, me encuentro en licencia extrapenal emitida el día 22 de julio del 2004, por la causa No.12/2003 del TPP Ciudad de La Habana, por el delito de "Actos contra la independencia e integridad territorial del Estado". Por espacio de más de 9 meses, he estado sufriendo de mítines de repudio, que han ido incrementándose, hasta el extremo de tener permanentemente personas en el pasillo del edificio donde resido, que me ofenden y hostigan y recibir golpes el 25 de abril pasado, al negárseme la posibilidad de salir de mi casa. Me es imposible en tan corto espacio explicarle las vejaciones, insultos, actos de agresión corporal y humillaciones que he recibido. Cuando me entregaron el documento de la licencia extrapenal, yo me encontraba ingresada en la Sala de la Seguridad del Estado del HospitalMilitar Carlos J. Finlay y este acto tuvo la presencia de 3 oficiales, uno de la Dirección de Cárceles y Prisiones y dos de la Seguridad del Estado. Antes de tomar en mi mano el papel que acreditaba que me estaban dando la licencia extrapenal, cuestioné a éstos oficiales qué limitaciones implicaba este nuevo estatus. En particular, un oficial al que conozco de Villa Maristas, con el nombre de Águila me contestó: "Puedes hacer todo lo que quieras, menos pisar el césped". En ningún momento hubiera accedido a salir de la prisión si hubiera tenido restricciones de índole políticas o personales. En el día de ayer 10 de mayo, hube de recibir una nueva advertencia, de parte de la Brigada de Respuesta Rápida, que se activa cerca de mi casa, me dijeron textualmente: "Para que sepas, el 20 de mayo no puedes salir de aquí, no te lo vamos a permitir. Y también olvídate de estar recibiendo paquetes, no vamos a dejar entrar más ninguna cajita a tu casa." Como usted puede apreciar de esta breve historia, la forma en que el gobierno quiere que lleve mi vida, es insostenible, y en ningún momento pienso que este es el "pueblo enardecido", como se empeñan en hacer ver, por el contrario, sé que son personas que infringen la ley con la anuencia y el visto bueno del gobierno, ya que es quien los dirige. Después de esta pequeña explicación, solicito de usted me represente ante los Ministros de Justicia y del Interior, solicitándoles que cese esteestado de hostigamiento, que puede traer como graves consecuencias la pérdida de mi vida. De no recibir una respuesta positiva, la autorizo a iniciar los trámites para rechazar de inmediato mi estatus actual de licencia extrapenal y retornar al establecimiento penitenciario donde extinga mi sanción de 20 años de privación de libertad. Debo aclararle, que como la última amenaza está vinculada con la fecha del 20 de mayo, estos trámites deben ser efectuados a la mayor brevedad y esperaría la respuesta hasta el 18 de mayo, al día siguiente haré uso de las libertades que me ha concedido mi condición de disidente. She was informed that she could not leave her house on May 20th.When Martha Beatriz was granted the leave from prison under an extra penal license in July of 2004, she was informed that there were no conditions placed on her leave. The pro-democracy leader would not have accepted any restriction or conditions on her prison release. As a result of this new threat, Martha Beatriz has requested in writing that attorney Amelia Rodriguez Cala represents her before the Ministries of Justice and Interior, seeking an end to the daily harassment. If Martha Beatriz does not receive a prompt response to her request, she has instructed Ms. Rodriguez Cala to initiate the necessary steps for her to return to prison to complete the remainder of her 20 year sentence. Last night Martha Beatriz contacted those of us listed below and the office of Congressman Lincoln Diaz-Balart to inform us about her position and to end us a copy of the attached letter. In light of this new threat, it is of the utmost importance that all international media accredited in Havana and representatives of the government with Embassies in Cuba to monitor the situation closely and to be willing to visit Martha Beatriz during the course of next week, especially on May 20th. We also call upon the local news media, as well as the international community, to denounce these new threats in support of Martha Beatriz Roque Cabello. During more than 9 months, I have suffered meetings of repudiation, that have continued increasing, to the point that there are people standing permanently in the hallways of the building where I reside, offending me, harassing me, and, this past April 25 I was brutally beat, prohibiting me from leaving my home. It is impossible to explain to you in such a short space the vexation, the insults, the acts of bodily harm and the humiliations that I have received. When I was given the document granting my extra penal leave, I was in the State Security Wing of the Military Hospital Carlos J. Finlay and this act had the presence of 3 officials, one from the Directorship of Jails and Prisons, and two from State Security. Before giving me the document that stated that I was being granted the extra penal leave, I asked these officials what limitations this new status implied. In particular, one official by the name of Aguila, whom I know from Villa Maristas, responded: "You can do whatever you want, except step on the grass". At no time would I have accepted to leave the prison if I had been informed of any political or personal restrictions. Yesterday, May 10, I received a new warning from the Rapid Response Brigade that is active by my home, who literally said to me: "Just to warn you, on May 20 you cannot leave your home, we will not allow it. And you can also forget about receiving anymore packages, we are not going to allow any more little boxes to enter your home." As you can well see from this brief account, the manner in which the government wants me to live my life is unbearable, and at no time do I believe that these are the "inflamed people", as they try to make it seem, on the contrary, I know that they are people that violate the law with the consent and approval of the government, since it directs them. After this brief explanation, I ask you to represent me before the Ministers of Justice and Interior, requesting that this state of harassment cease, that it can bring about the grave consequence of the loss of my life. If I do not receive a positive response, I authorize you to immediately begin the negotiations to reject my current status of an extra penal leave and return to the penitentiary establishment where I will fulfill my sentence, of 20 years of privation of freedom. I must make clear that since the last threat is linked to May 20, these negotiations must occur as quickly as possible and I would await the response until May 18, and the following day I will use the liberties that my condition as a dissident has granted me.
